Worse Quality, Higher Price, January 20, 2012
    By
    FAS

I have written an e-mail to Unilever, and I’ll write the same sentiments here:

I was thrilled when I finally got into a groove with my weight loss and fitness, replacing food with a drink I actually LIKED. I enjoyed the taste of the Chocolate Royale can formula: it kept me pleasantly sated for 4-6 (usually 6) hours, and I could drink one when I was having longings for chocolate and still stick to my heath goals. I drank at least two every day until about a month ago, and have learned the difference between mind hunger and body hunger, when it is good to honor a desire for something not-quite good for you, and how to sensibly ease back into a diet to offset the occasional high-calorie treat.
Well, all my contented feelings of health and good fortune hit the fan when suddenly the well-priced subscription for my favorite flavor and size from Amazon suddenly stopped coming, and was deemed “out of stock,” and then after researching more on the internet, was deemed to be “discontinued.” I looked everywhere online and offline, and found out that ALL the places I could get the cans before had replaced them with this new bottled formula. So I tried the bottles (which are, by the way, less cheap and easy to recycle than the cans, right?), and thought, “oh well, every company needs to refresh their packaging once in a while to stay competitive,” and, “same company, same product, right?”

To my disappointment, I was WRONG (at least in the, “same company, same product” idea) and here is what I observed:

    1) They shaved an ounce of liquid off. I had noted one day that I didn’t feel deprived with a slim fast can, and suspected that the nice amount was the main reason why I could substitute this one can of “stuff” for a whole meal of something else I was used to eating. I tried the new amount in the bottles, and, sure enough, I found myself looking at the bottom hoping for just a little more, knowing that I’d be content if I had it.
    2) They added high fructose corn syrup. Upon research, I found that there is quite a lot of that in the other flavors, but not in the Chocolate Royale can formula I consistently drank. I have tried all the other flavors (and even the powders), and unsurprisingly, reacted as I usually do with high fructose corn syrup: I feel a strange sense of unfulfillment, even though my body is full, and still feel like I haven’t eaten anything, even though I have. I was still frustratingly unsated (like I had never ingested anything at all), with these bottles of the new Chocolate Royale formula, even though I had just drank a 10 oz drink, and eating more to stop the feeling of empty hungryness, AS WELL AS drinking the bottle of liquid, is quite beside the point of drinking a diet drink that is supposed to be a lower calorie, less heavy, meal replacement.
    3) I am not sure if this has to do with the high fructose corn syrup, but with this new formula, I get hungry about every two hours. That is drastically different from 4-6, and is really inconvenient, because with me this creates the circumstance of having to continue to either ignore my body’s pleadings for more (of something, anything!) for 2-3 more hours, or to go forage for and count (and possibly fudge, then) more calories for something else, which is really (even with healthy stuff prepared and easily handy), REALLY a hassle every two hours. I used to count on this stuff to give me the time and the distance to not grab ‘just anything’ I saw cause I was so hungry and craving whatever my body was thinking about, and in between Slim-Fasts, learn to regulate my blood sugar, how to make and eat what was needed (and when) to get the kind of energy and length of sated time I needed for all of my activities. So this change really bummed me out.
    4) The price went wildly up per container, even versus what you can get them for at places like a convenience store, who tend to drastically price items like that above most regular stores as it is. Other people have done the math here, so I won’t repeat it, but it comes to a ridiculous amount, for less liquid of, in my opinion, a lesser quality formula, that sates you for less long.

So, in conclusion, I really recommend against buying this product for satiation of hunger and cravings and meal replacement: I fear that you will be disappointed in these areas, and be out of more money than you would like. But if you try it and it works for you, and fits whatever your needs and goals are, “Hurray!” ‘Cause I know how great it is to find a product that fits you – that’s what I had with their old Chocolate Royale can formula. We all want life to be as good as it can be, and so I wish that feeling and effect for you, too, no matter what choice you make.

Good Luck with your decision, and I hope my opinion helped!

Please Unilever, bring the old Chocolate Royale Cans back!!!!!

Stops my food cravings and losing weight, July 12, 2012

Slim-Fast helps to stop my food cravings. Instead of reaching for a bag of chips or cookies, I can drink one Slim Fast and keep going.

Slim-Fast has quite a bit of fiber and protein, which is important for maintaining a high metabolism.

30 min. before drinking Slim-Fast, I also take Green Coffee Bean Extract 800 – 100% Pure All Natural Weight Loss Supplement For All Body Types. 50% Chlorogenic Acid. 800mg. 60 Caps.. This helps to burn fat in the liver and lower sugar absorption into the bloodstream, both of which eliminate weight gain. By combining green coffee bean extract with Slim-Fast, I’m losing 3 to 4 pounds per week. I’m thrilled with these results.

    Goodbye Slim-Fast, February 27, 2013

I smelled a rat 2 years ago when my store suddenly dropped the price of the cans by half. After the old product had cleared, then the new product showed up—at double the per ounce cost of the former product. That’s nutty. As other commenters have noted, Unilever must have hired the marketing guy who gave us New Coke and the Netflix pricing plan.

I’ll find some other way to keep my weight in check. Low-calorie beer, anyone?
